Gresham visits London, explores opportunities amid Euro crisis

This month, Ted Neild and Ben Beavers traveled to London to perform due diligence on several existing equity, hedge fund and real estate managers. While abroad, the Gresham investment team investigated opportunities created by the sovereign debt and banking crisis unfolding on the European continent. Additionally, as part of the firm’s ongoing search for best in class managers, Gresham met with a number of promising new manager candidates, including managers in the equity, real estate, and debt areas.

Gresham hosts Antheus Capital in New York

For the second time this year, Eli Ungar, principal and founder of Antheus Capital, visited with Gresham clients and friends to share his successful approach to multifamily real estate investing. Gresham hosted the private event at The Modern in New York.

Gresham monitors Asia managers

In September, Ted Neild and Joe Simpson traveled to Singapore and Hong Kong to meet with over 20 managers and contacts in Gresham’s network, including traditional equity managers, distressed debt managers, hedge fund and private equity managers. The Gresham investment team spent 10 days monitoring existing investments and continuing its search for new opportunities and managers. Gresham timed the trip to coincide with the Super Return Asia conference, which brings many Asian private equity firms to Hong Kong for the week, providing a very efficient means to visit with our managers without traveling to multiple cities.

Gresham hosts client conference call

Ted Neild and Ben Beavers hosted a telephone conference call for Gresham clients during which they discussed the implications of the S&P’s recent downgrade of the U.S. credit.  “While news, the event is not unexpected, its timing was” explained Neild.  In addition, Ted attributed the recent equity market volatility more to concerns over slowing global growth and a fragile financial system, especially in Europe, rather than the S&P downgrade of U.S. sovereign debt. Ben highlighted that increased volatility will likely be the norm going forward due to the continuing geo-political shifts taking place and the challenges of governments to make the necessary and hard decisions.

Gresham participates in RayLign event

David Salsburg participated in RayLign’s Family Frontiers forum, which brought together 20 leading financial service firms to discuss the intergenerational conflicts that can occur within high net worth families, particularly when they are still operating a family business. RayLign Advisory, a Greenwich based family office consultancy formed this “think-tank/practice-improvement” gathering to allow selected firms the opportunity to share best practices.

Antheus Capital presents at Gresham luncheon

Gresham hosted a private luncheon in Chicago at TRU with a presentation by Eli Ungar, principal and founder of Antheus Capital. Clients and select friends heard Eli share his approach and keys to success with multifamily real estate investments in Chicago and Kansas City.

Kate Warner attended the 26th annual NRS conference in Miami, Florida. The conference, hosted by nationally-recognized compliance consulting firm NRS, provided a unique opportunity to learn about new regulatory requirements and how to implement new regulation into Gresham’s compliance program.

Siguler Guff annual conference

Joe Simpson attended the Siguler Guff annual conference in New York City to learn about current investment trends across a wide range of private equity strategies. The presentations from portfolio managers, private equity executives and investors offered different perspectives on the investment environment, performance outlook, and potential opportunities in the private equity universe.

Donors Forum on Venture Philanthropy

Lee Morava attended the Donors Forum, the premier resource for networking, education and information on philanthropy in Illinois. At the forum, Gresham learned about Venture Philanthropy, also known as ‘philanthrocapitalism’, which takes concepts and techniques from venture capital finance and high technology business management and applies them to achieving philanthropic goals. Gresham’s membership in the Donors Forum helps the firm better address the philanthropic needs of our clients by augmenting our knowledge about sophisticated philanthropic solutions.

David Filkin spoke on a panel of leading business development officers at a PAM-sponsored networking event in New York City focused on strategic business development. With over 100 people in attendance, David discussed Gresham’s efforts to enhance its brand and business development activities.

Gresham nominated for two PAM awards

After evaluating nearly 50 candidate firms, an independent panel of industry experts named Gresham Partners a finalist in two PAM Award categories: Best Private Wealth Manager – Under $5 Billion, and Best Private Wealth Manager – Overall Client Service. The PAM Awards, organized by Private Asset Management magazine, are designed for investment professionals and wealth advisors operating within the private asset management industry. Ben Beavers, David Colton and Lee Morava attended the Awards Gala in New York.

Gresham Attends Heckerling Institute

Matt Bonaguidi attended the 45th annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning in Orlando. Heckerling is a weeklong conference of leading estate planners from around the U.S. to review wealth planning opportunities and current tax law trends. This year’s conference highlighted the gift and generation skipping planning opportunities for 2011-2012 following the passage of the December 2010 tax law.
